At the end of 2018 I visited some of the towns around England that had voted most heavily in favour of Brexit. Many of these are in the most deprived parts of our country. What I found was a landscape devasted by three decades of neo-liberalist policies - policies whose central aim is the redistribution of increasing amounts of power and wealth to the top 1% of the population. At this, they have been amazingly successful.
